Romanian students innovate at Microsoft's Imagine Cup
We did it again :) Just a couple of weeks ago, Flavia Oprea, Iulian Mateșică and Cristian Alexandrescu from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest won the Innovation challenge in Microsoft's Imagine Cup competition.
Their project was a wearable device that tracks patient movement in order to monitor and acquire live data from the patient, and targets people suffering from inner ear and spinal injuries. The best part is that their project uses technologies that are commonly found in any smart device (accelerometers, magnetometers and gyroscopes), in order to collect relevant info in real time, then it proceeds to aggregate this data to an Azure SQL database. This data will be afterwards reviewed by trained medical personnel.
Based on their innovation, medical professionals can now make better decisions for the treatment, and they can also monitor the patients remotely. Remote monitoring of the patient allows extended periods of observation, without the need for patients to stay on hospital premises, unless deemed necessary by their physician.
This innovative technology shows that our younger generation has the talent and inspiration to put their IT skills to good use in building a better tomorrow. We're proud to see the next generation grow and shine!
